‘By the age of 9 I had regularly witnessed bursts of domestic violence, adultery, and soon after, divorce’.
Remember the Turner classic hit “What’s Love Got to Do with It”? This would be a perfect depiction of how I felt before encountering a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Although I was brought up in a culturally Christian environment, where Christian principles underpinned our moral guidelines.. The reality was often very different. By the age of 9 I had regularly witnessed bursts of domestic violence, adultery, and soon after, divorce.
As I grew up I would have spells where I enjoyed attending church, however truth be known it was more of a youth club. During my adolescent years I became a rebel without a cause, and was looking for love in all the wrong places. My heart was cold, and I had a fierce temper, and distrusted women. I was seeking success, but the truth was I just wanted approval.
So what changed? After years of superficial happiness, and a burning desire for life to mean more than getting drunk on weekends I turned to self help books. I read constantly, and searched but I found no real deep satisfaction. A bible verse that kept returning to mind was Matthew 6:33 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need”. It became obvious I was looking in the wrong place.
In 2010 I moved to London, and a yearning desire grew to understand what a Man of God was. I soon decided to attend my local church, this really was where change started to occur. I started to learn about Jesus Christ, and what the good news really meant. But the catalyst was a night after church where I was still yearning to commune with God. That night I heard from God, and I experienced a feeling of love, which up until now has been a game changing moment for me. The goodness and nature of God caused me to want to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
I now cannot imagine life without him.
